## What is happening

OpenAI promised a new feature every day in October and kept its word. The biggest launch is GPT-6 with what OpenAI calls Intelligent UI, an interface that adapts to the task at hand.

Free plans get a lighter version of the model, while paid plans get a stronger one. There is also Dots, an assistant that runs in the background and suggests next steps on its own, though for now it is only available on the top-tier plans.

## Where sources agree

Sources consistently point to two changes that matter for websites and online stores. The first is an invisible watermark in text generated by ChatGPT and Codex in the European Union, rolling out starting in October.

The second concerns ChatGPT search. Through a pilot with Cloudflare, OpenAI discovered and indexed hundreds of millions of new pages, and stores can now refresh their product feeds as often as every fifteen minutes.

## Where they differ

The biggest confusion is around traffic measurement. Some sources report that ChatGPT has dropped the source tag from its links, so visits may end up counted as direct traffic (Top Online). Others say ChatGPT still tags its traffic in the URL, unlike Google (WhitePress).

It is also unclear how the watermarks will be received. An earlier OpenAI study found that almost one in three users would use ChatGPT less if texts were marked this way.

## What to do

Check your analytics for a sudden drop in ChatGPT traffic combined with a rise in direct visits. If you see this pattern, set up rules that identify this traffic by its referring site.

If you publish text written with ChatGPT, expect that in the EU it may carry a hidden marker. That is one more reason to have a human review every piece.

For marketers, OpenAI's October launches are less about new models and more about changes in traffic measurement and content labeling. It is worth checking your ChatGPT traffic in analytics manually now rather than relying on the default reports.
