The new Claude app is about fitting how you work, not adding more tabs

Anthropic has rebuilt the Claude app: only two tabs remain, and it adds a side chat and mods that let you change the app by describing what you want in plain language. Sources disagree on just one thing - what happened to co-work.

What is happening

Anthropic has rebuilt the Claude app, changing the interface layout and adding new features. Creators covering the update are calling this version Claude 2.0.

The app now has two tabs: Claude Chat and Claude Code. Two new features are getting the most attention: the side chat and mods.

Where sources agree

The side chat (the /btw command) lets you ask a side question without interrupting the main conversation. It has full access to that conversation's context, and the question doesn't clutter the main thread.

Mods are a way to change the app itself. You describe the change in plain language, and Claude builds it (Futurepedia). One example is a notification when a long task finishes. Mods are often compared to browser extensions, but for Claude.

Where they differ

Sources differ on what happened to co-work. Some say it was removed from the app (AI Edge).

Others say it didn't disappear but was folded into the regular chat, which is why it no longer has its own tab (Jack Roberts). For now, both accounts describe the same screen but draw different conclusions from it.

What to do about it

If you use Claude for reports or content work, try the side chat. You can ask about a detail without breaking up a long conversation where the model holds the full context.

Treat mods as an experiment, not a reason to change your process right away. Start with something small, such as a notification when a task finishes, and check whether it actually saves you time.

Our take

The Claude app rebuild means fewer new tabs and more tools for tailoring the app to how you work. The side chat is a practical improvement from day one, while the value of mods will only become clear once users build useful add-ons.

Confidence: medium - several independent sources describe the new features consistently, but they disagree on what happened to co-work. We will change our view if: Anthropic officially confirms that co-work was removed with no replacement, or mods turn out to be available only to some users.
